The Raku Firing Process
Excitement and drama surround this unique process!
In a slide show below, I will show steps in the firing process as we follow an oval wall piece from the first (bisque) firing through the final raku firing where the piece displays its glorious metallic and iridescent raku colors.
1. My Skutt electric kiln
2. The bisque fired oval wall piece inside the elec kiln
3. Lynne spray glazing the wall piece
4. The oval is loaded into the propane fired raku kiln
5. Lynne with goggles - safety feature
6. Peering into the fiery raku kiln nearing temperature
7. The oval is placed into a barrel of newspaper; it flames up immediately and the barrel is capped. this cuts the oxygen and it's when the color happens!
8. Lynne with final metallic and iridescent wall piece
